Hypnosis is the most successful method of quitting smoking because its focus is the
HABIT not the NICOTINE!
What are the facts?
We have all heard statements to the effect that nicotine is one of the most addictive substances in the world.
Believe that and you have installed your excuse for failure before you even start to quit. If nicotine is as addictive as
claimed by all those selling Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) in the form of inhalers, gum and patches why is it that people
do not get hooked on any of these products?
Redefine addiction.
Narcotics are addictive. Once hooked, sudden deprivation will cause the addict to suffer severe physical
symptoms - in some cases death. Quit smoking "Cold Turkey" and you may suffer some physical symptoms including:
Headache , indigestion, nausea, diarrhea, insomnia,
coughing, irritability, depression, anxiety, tiredness,
lack of concentration and sore throat coupled with
increased appetite and possible weight gain.
We have not heard of any deaths resulting from quitting smoking. Compared to heroin, and cocaine the smoking
"addiction" is mild.
The physical symptoms of nicotine withdrawal are attenuated and extended by the use of NRT products. People
who really want to quit smoking frequently get past the physical symptoms with relative ease. Failure occurs later. Resuming
smoking after three months is quite common. Smoking resumption following an emotional trauma can occur after a year or more.
It’s the habit.
Webster’s New World Dictionary includes the following definition of habit:
"a pattern of action that is acquired and has become
so automatic that it is difficult to break"
To understand what habits are, how they are formed and how they can be broken requires a little understanding
of how the human mind works.
How we learn
If we could program the human brain directly, like we program a computer, we could hook up a disk drive and
get a Ph.D. in Nuclear Physics, complete with decades of experience, overnight.
We learn by repetition and experience. Consider an infant attracted to an object. The child possesses all
of the mechanical attributes plus the mental desire to obtain the object. Through repeated unsuccessful attempts the necessary
skills are learned, refined and implanted into the subconscious.
When a person first learns to drive it requires undivided attention while habits are being formed, afterwards
safe driving while attending to a myriad of other tasks becomes routine.
Habits are formed when the pattern of action is implanted into the subconscious.

There has been a lot in the news recently about the Federal Government
finally paying attention to the epidemic of obesity sweeping the United States. A countless number of "experts" have
lined up to create the long awaited follow up to the "Dot Com" craze of the 1990s. Just look at the proliferation of:
● Personal Diet Plans (Calories, Fat, or Carbohydrates)
● Group Diet Plans (Jenny Craig & Weight Watchers),
● Diet pills (Both prescription and over-the counter),
● Health Food Stores,
● Liposuction,
● Stomach stapling,
● Health clubs,
● Exercise accessories (Protective & stylish)
● Metabolism monitoring devices
● Body fat calculators
What do you call it when a person keeps doing the same thing over and over hoping for a different
result?
Please don’t be too harsh. We all do it.
Have you ever misplaced an item and been sure of the approximate location? How many times did you search that area before
you found it elsewhere?
We have been popping pills, dieting and exercising
for more than 50 years and we are only now starting to realize that those things do not work. The proponents of each will
show us stacks of testimonials but that has not and will not stem the epidemic.
The "experts" will happily calculate for us the
cost of obesity. How about the cost of body damage resulting from diet supplements, improper exercise, joggers and bicycle
riders in traffic accidents?
THE ANSWER IS IN THE MIRROR
A dieter resisting a snack is capable of thinking of nothing else!
